TWO Dorset beaches have been named among some of the best in Europe according to travel website Tripadvisor.
Tripadvisor's Travelers’ Choice Awards for 2023 revealed that Weymouth beach and Bournemouth beach both earned spots in Europe's top 25 beaches, beating competitors from across the continent.
The website analysed tens of millions of reviews submitted by global travellers over the past year, which looked at the quality and quality of ratings for beach experiences.
Weymouth beach was ranked as the 14th best beach in Europe, while Bournemouth beach, a re-entry for this year, was ranked 24th on the list.
Ranking Weymouth beach, the review website said: "Weymouth Beach, located at the heart of the Jurassic Coast, comes in at number 14.
"This family-friendly beach with shallow waters makes it an ideal swim spot when the British sun makes an appearance - or throughout the year for those not of the faint of heart!
"Weymouth beat famous beach hotspots like Portugal, Spain and Greece to claim its place in the ranking this year."
The seven-mile-long Bournemouth beach came in at 24.
Britain's top beach still couldn't find a place in the top ten with Gorleston-on-Sea, Norfolk coming in at 12th.
The best beach in Europe was in one of the colder areas of the continent in Iceland.
Reynisfjara Beach in Vik, Iceland took the top spot with its well-renowned famous black sands and imposing rock formations which tower above the shore.
