DORSET residents spent £151 per person on highways and transport between 2021 and 2022, according to new research.
Data compiled by Bill Plant Driving School has highlighted local authorities spending the most on roads, with Dorset ranking as the fifth biggest spender last year with £151 shelled out per person.
Experts explored the state of England’s roads, taking several factors into account, including from highways and transport expenditure and roads requiring maintenance and working how much of the cost was being picked up by the local authority's taxpayers.
Data was taken from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government.
The Isles of Scilly off the coast of Cornwall came out as the priciest for residents, with a spend of £875 per person.
"If you are a regular commuter on England’s crowded roads and highways, you’ll appreciate smooth road surfaces that are free from potholes and bumps, to ensure a safer journey for both you and your vehicle," Bill Plant Driving School said.
"Highway authorities must keep the surface of public rights of way in a fit state for public use, to prevent accidents and damage to both drivers and vehicles."
