TWO people were taken to hospital following a crash on the outskirts of Weymouth.

Two ambulances, an air ambulance, police officers and members of the fire service attended the incident at Nottington Lane (Tatton) near Buckland Ripers.

As a result, two people were taken to Dorset County Hospital for their injuries - one of whom had to be assisted out of the vehicle by a crew from Weymouth fire station.

The collision was reported to have taken place at around 9 am on the morning of Wednesday, February 22.

Police could not confirm if the road had closed although traffic monitoring service INRIX initially reported that 'traffic was coping well.' 

A statement from Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 9.01am of a collision on Nottington Lane near to Buckland Ripers. 

"Officers have attended along with the ambulance service. 

We can confirm the fire service has attended and assisted with removing a woman from the vehicle. 

"She is currently being treated by the ambulance service and we do not have any condition update at this time. Officers remain at the scene."

The vehicle was subsequently recovered and officers left the scene at about 11.35am.

It was later confirmed to the Echo that the injuries sustained were not believed to be serious.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) added: "We were called at 08.59hrs to an incident in the general area of Weymouth.

"We sent two double-crewed land ambulances and an air ambulance. We conveyed two patients to Dorset County Hospital by land ambulance.”

Another incident happened at a similar time on Dorset's roads, this time in the north of the county.

Two vehicles were involved in a collision in the village of Melbury Osmond near the Somerset border. A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 9.07am of a collision involving two vehicles in Holt Lane in Melbury Osmond.

"However, there were no reports of any injuries, the road was not blocked and there was no requirement for police to attend."
