A flipping fantastic time was had by youngsters and adults alike at the return of Portland Pancake Day race.
The event took place at Easton Gardens on Portland yesterday as local children and adults competed to cross the finish line whilst flipping a pancake.
A crowd of locals came to watch the event, which thankfully despite the cloud did not see rain.
Sandra Smyth, of Doodlebugs Preschool, said: “Children have missed out on good traditional fun events like this the last couple of years.
“It is nice to get back to doing what we always do.”
Sue Kenderdine came down to watch her granddaughter Grace compete in the girls’ 6-11 race. She said: “It is good to see all the kids and the community. All the children seemed to enjoy it, and it was good for them.
“I am very pleased they have continued doing the race.”
After a three-year hiatus because of the pandemic, the event - which usually takes place on the rectory lawn at All Saints Church - made its return at Easton Gardens.
Reverend Tim Gomm and churchwarden Antoinette Richards oversaw events this year - taking over from Jan Camp.
Antionette said: “I saw lots of smiles this morning.
“We have had a good reaction from the public. It is something we haven’t had in three years, so it is good to be able to bring it back to the community.
“We hope it will be a tradition we can continue next year.”
The first, second and third place runners for each race were awarded Easter eggs, some of which had been donated by the Portland Tesco.
There were races for boys and girls under the age of five and boys and girls aged six to 11.
Adult races for men and women also took place, with the group contest being won by Portland Town Council.
