People are being urged to buy a bag of rice and change a life.
The Bridge Fair Trade Shop on Trinity Road in Weymouth has once again taken on the 90kg rice challenge to give a helping hand to Malawian farmers and their families.
Malawi is one of the world’s poorest countries and less than one in four children are able to attend secondary school.
The 90kg rice challenge was inspired by the fact that if a farmer can sell just 90kg of Kilombero rice at a fair price, they will be able to send a child to secondary school for a year.
The challenge has been resurrected this year after the success of lst year's efforts, which saw 180kg of rice sold.
The shop window of the Bridge Fair Trade shop has been filled with 50kg of brown and 40kg of white rice, which is being sold at £3 per kg bag.
The challenge is to empty the window by the end of Fairtrade Fortnight on March 12.
A spokesman said: "Come and get yours before it’s all gone.
"By taking part in the challenge the volunteers at The Bridge Fair Trade Shop are reminding us that by choosing fair trade options when we buy food we can help to transform the lives of some of the world’s poorest people."
*The Bridge Fair Trade Shop at 24 Trinity Rd, Weymouth, is open from 10am to 4pm from Tuesday to Saturday.
