A major route through a Dorset town will be closed whilst an ‘iconic’ chestnut tree is removed.
South Walks Road, Dorchester, will be closed from its junction with Trinity Street to its junction with Acland Road, a distance of approximately 115 metres this weekend on Sunday, February 26 from 8am to 5pm.
The closure is to allow Amberon safe access whilst they carry out tree works using a crane on the highway.
The decision to remove the two chestnut trees in Dorchester comes after a report revealed that the trees, which are located next to Coffee #1 at the lower end of South Street in the town centre, were significantly decayed.
The first tree was removed last Sunday.
An alternative route will be signposted.
For further information about the work being undertaken, call Amberon on 01258 920164. To discuss the road closure notice, call Dorset Highways Traffic Team on 01305 221020 or email trafficteam@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk.
