THERE are reports of delays on the railway lines in north Dorset after a passenger was taken ill.

Disruption is expected until around 3:45 pm at Gillingham train station in North Dorset,according to South West Railway (SWR) following reports that a passenger was ill on the train. 

Reportedly the train is unable to continue its journey until the person's condition has been assessed by staff from the ambulance service. 

Services running through this station may be cancelled, delayed or revised due to the incident. 

As a result of this, several trains are congested behind the one where the ill person is onboard. 

A full statement from SWR said: "We have been informed that a passenger has taken ill onboard a train in Gillingham Dorset. 

"Until the person's condition has been assessed by staff from the Ambulance Service the train is unable to continue its journey. A queue of trains has already formed behind the train with the ill passenger on board.

"For further information or onward travel advice please speak to a member of staff or use a station help point.

"We are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey."

At 4.41 pm a spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said: “We were called to an incident on the railway network in Dorset and were on the scene.”
