A FIVE-star hotel resort in Dorset has unveiled its plans for the next phase of a multi-million-pound refurbishment.
The Nici hotel will soon house a brand-new luxury spa and gym, indoor and outdoor heated pools, a new outdoor activity centre and additional courtyard rooms.
The first phase of refurbishment was completed after a more than £20million investment and the newest facilities are all set to open in April this year.
The rebranded Savoy site on the West Cliff boasts 84 rooms, plus 10 garden suites with outdoor hot tubs, an indoor cinema, and a bar and restaurant.
Marcus O’Leary, general manager of The Nici, said: “We are delighted to unveil the next phase of our five-star development – as we work to re-define the UK staycation, with a new style of hotel resort.
“The addition of a luxury new spa (Bournemouth’s first) and huge outdoor pool will further transform the hotel into a year-round destination.”
Approval for the second stage of refurbishments was granted by BCP Council in August last year. However, members of the planning committee did warn the hotel owners after work on a new flue extraction system began prior to obtaining planning consent first.
Committee chair Cllr David Kelsey said that while the refurbishment of the hotel was welcomed, if the hotel operators were not good neighbours they could be closed “at the flick of a switch”.
The new Nici spa will feature a 15m heated indoor pool and hydrotherapy pool, alongside a poolside steam room and aromatherapy sauna.
A fully air-conditioned gym will feature state-of-the-art equipment and on-site personal trainers.
Spring will see the addition of a 28m feature outdoor pool, with more than 60 luxury poolside loungers and cabanas which can be booked for up to six people.
An activity centre will house equipment which can be borrowed free-of-charge for the day – including bicycles, paddleboards, bodyboards, kayaks, beach games, yoga mats and fitness kits.
Residents will be able to join The Nici Club, a membership scheme allowing local people to use the new facilities.
Rates for The Nici are from £175 per room, per night.
