GET your pans at the ready! Portland’s Pancake Day Race is back after a three year absence.
The annual flipping-fantastic race will return to Easton Gardens on Tuesday, February 21 at 10.30am having not taken place since before the pandemic.
The event, held by Portland Parish, has been a staple of Shrove Tuesday celebrations on the isle for nearly 30 years.
It sees children and adults of all ages and abilities race to a finish line all whilst continuously flipping their pancakes.
Reverend Tim Gomm and, church warden, Antoinette Richards are overseeing events this year - taking over from Jan Camp.
Antoinette said there was much to look forward to at this year’s event. She said: “Hopefully, as we begin to get back to some kind of normality, post Covid, people will come and support this community event.
“Traditionally Shrove Tuesday - also known as pancake day - was when people used up luxury items before beginning Lent, often making them into pancakes. It’s one last hurrah before forty days of fasting and strict living."
