TWO teenagers had to be rescued by emergency services after finding themselves stuck in mud near west Dorset clifftops.
The boys had sunk deep into the mud at the Spittles - a coastal cliff between Lyme Regis and Charmouth - and were unable to free themselves.
Firefighters from Charmouth Fire Station attended the incident along with colleagues from Colyton and the technical rescue team from Weymouth Fire Station.
The crews were called to the incident at 1.38pm yesterday (Tuesday, February 14) to assist the coastguard with the rescue.
Fortunately the pair were successfully released and helped back to their families and a waiting ambulance.
The incident prompted an important safety reminded from the fire service about the potential dangers of climbing on cliffs.
A spokesperson for Charmouth Fire Station said: “The two boys had sunk deep into the mud but were released by the coastguard and helped back to their families and the ambulance by the fire service. Please do NOT climb the cliffs. They are dangerous and regularly collapse.”
