Seven residential streets in the Weymouth Park District will be disrupted by four days of roadworks.

Hardwick Street and part of Brownlow Street in Weymouth will be closed from 9am to 4pm every day from Monday, February 27 to Thursday, March 2.

Hardwick Street is a road in the Weymouth Park District that has several streets connected to it by one-way roads, all of which will be residents' access only during the works.

The work is being conducted by Dorset Council to carry out carriageway maintenance works and will see Hardwick Street closed from its junction with Lennox Street to Queen Street, and Brownlow Street from its junction with Hardwick Street to Lennox Street.

A spokesperson for Dorset Council said: “We are resurfacing the road as it has become uneven due to many utility works that have taken place over the years.

"There are areas of cracking and crazing and our work will provide a new level surface that will prevent potholes forming in the future

"During the closure periods, there will be no on-street parking available. Parking restrictions will be imposed to prevent waiting or parking on the roads stated above.

"Any vehicle waiting in contravention of any restriction imposed by this road closure notice may be removed under the provisions of the Removal and Disposal of Vehicles Regulations 1986. If a vehicle has been towed the owner will need to contact our towing contractors Bride Valley on 01305 889421.”

Hardwick Street will be open overnight.

Residents living on the mostly one-way, roads with junctions to Hardwick street will need to be escorted safely through the works by phoning onsite staff for the duration of the works.

The Dorset Council spokesman added: “We have written to residents on the other streets in the Park District affected. Access to these roads will be enabled by calling the telephone number listed on our onsite signage so that traffic management operatives can escort them safely.”

Streets that will be access only for the duration of the works include; Penny Street, Walpole Street, Brownlow Street, Chelmsford Street, Derby Street and Stanley Street.

Councillor Jon Orrell, Dorset Council councillor for Melcombe Regis, said: "It is important for people to be aware and plan their journeys.

"It should be possible for people to get around the Park District and hopefully the work will be done quickly.

"Hardwick Street has deteriorated over the years, it is quite uneven and this is a chance to strip it back and get a nice even surface."
