“IT’S a massive challenge” - Archie Rowell is under no illusions that attempting to run the length of the Jurassic Coast, all 96 miles, in less than 36 hours is going to be physically and mentally demanding.

But the 21-year-old is determined to complete the challenge in order to raise funds for a cause close to his heart: CALM - the Campaign Against Living Miserably.

Speaking to the Echo, Archie, who works in Dorchester and went to school in Beaminster, said he had been motivated to tackle the enormous task since running the London Marathon last year.

He said: “I’m the type of person that that if I’m told I can’t do something I will always want to prove to myself that I can do it; and I’m always looking to do something bigger, so when I ran the London Marathon last year I was already thinking ‘well what can I do after this?’’”.

Archie, a former youth member of parliament for Dorset, has set out to raise £10,000 for CALM - a goal he admits will be a push. 

He said he chose the charity after his close friend Sam Holloway took his own life last summer.

He added: “I’m from a single parent household and my mum’s dad, John Morfey, took his own life when she was only young and so I’ve been able to see the generational impact there is, even 40-50 years on and that still still shines through.

“CALM advocates for support for all those affected, directly and indirectly, by mental health and suicide and their values are something I really believe in”.

“I was told when you’re struggling on a run to run each mile for someone: mile 24 (in the marathon) was for John, mile 25 was for Sam, and mile 26 was for my mum.”

OffPiste, a production company run by Archie, is producing a documentary showcasing the process from training to completion with Elliot Millsen behind the camera. 

As part of the documentary, Rowell will interview those with connections to mental health with the interviewees then joining him for a ten mile stretch of the run.

He said the challenge was about ‘starting conversations’ as much as it was a feat of athleticism and fundraising.
