A new men’s walking group has launched to stroll through the scenic Bridport area.
The Men’s Walking Group enjoyed its inaugural stroll across West Bay.
The group has been launched by The Burrough Harmony Centre, Bridport, and will be meeting at 2pm every Tuesday at St Mary’s playing field, just over the river from the Bridport Bowling Club.
The group was joined on its first-ever walk by Bridport Mayor Cllr Ian Bark, who donned his walking boots as the group strolled across the fields to West Bay and back.
Cllr Ian Bark said: “Looking after our physical and mental well-being is vital if we are to live fulfilled lives, and the Harmony Men’s Walking Group is a wonderful way in which to look after both.
“It’s not about seeing how fast or far you can go; it’s about so much more. Simply strolling through our beautiful countryside in the company of other men, having a chat along the way, stopping to take in the views and breathing in the fresh air is the perfect way to get to know someone, share your thoughts and lift your spirits.
“I certainly felt invigorated by the end of the first walk and will do my best to join in whenever my schedule allows.”
Caroline Gamble, service manager at Harmony, said: "I was very pleased that our new project went so well. We offer several services to boost well-being, and this one will spread our appeal even further. It sounded like fun."
The weekly walks are run by Harmony facilitator Rob, who encourages all men, their partners, supporters, and dogs to join in too. Call him on 0759 7379 290 for more information.
Suitable clothing and footwear for countryside walking are recommended.
The Burrough Harmony Centre is an organisation providing mental health support to people in West Dorset.
The group provides harmony drop-ins three times a week and face-to-face support at the Bridport Community Front Room at the Assembly Rooms, Gundry Lane on an appointment basis. Find out more about the support they offer at www.harmonydropin.org.uk
