CARE home residents in Weymouth and Dorchester are getting set to host a special one-day only art exhibition.
The art display will take place at Pilgrim House, just off Hope Square, between 12pm and 5pm on Tuesday, February 14.
All of the work being showcased will have been produced by residents of Agincare’s care homes in Weymouth and Dorchester.
One of the featured artists at the exhibition is Anne, a resident of Crecy Care Home in Weymouth, who has produced a series of vivid, dreamlike paintings.
Crecy Care Home specialises in care for those with dementia and mental health care needs. Anne has been painting for many years and said it helps her to focus her mind.
She said: “I have been living with mental health issues for most of my life, through my painting I can express and calm myself. Helping me to declutter my mind and focus”.
Fellow resident Tony, a lifelong painter, will have his work displayed at the exhibition and said he has loved painting since his ‘younger years’.
A selection of Anne and Tony’s paintings will go on display alongside artwork from residents of Trafalgar, Agincourt, and Cheriton Care Home.
The one-day exhibition is the brainchild of Vicky Boursnell-Brooks, registered manager of Crecy Care Home, who said: “I really want to showcase art made by people living in care homes or with mental health issues that often goes unseen by the public.
“Art is often a release for our residents and the people we support. It’s a real privilege to immerse yourself in another person’s viewpoint, especially in how they see perceive life and the world around them.
“They all should be proud of the work they have produced, I have been very moved by the art I have seen so far and feel passionately that all forms of expression deserve to be seen”.
The one-day only exhibition tomorrow is at Pilgrim House (adjacent to The Red Lion pub).
Refreshments will be available, and the licensed bar will be open throughout the day.
