For the last time for now we return to the bitterly cold winter of 1962/63 and back into the Dorset Echo archives, which show us how people at the time coped with the big freeze.

Each collection of pictures has shown us people battling with the conditions, whether on foot or by car.

We've also seen the great lengths people have gone to in order to get supplies delivered in treacherous conditions.

Here, thanks to Geoff Pritchard's meticulous research, we bring you the final six photos and the stories behind them as the freezing winter of 1962/63 caused chaos.

1 CHICKERELL ROAD

It is clearly snowing heavily. A bus on the 61A service to Camp Road makes its way gingerly into Chickerell Road. One wonders how it fared on its way up Lanehouse Rocks Road. The lady thinks it is safer to walk on the road rather than the pavement which has probably not been gritted. A rare 1948 Hillman Minx is parked on the opposite side of the road – or has the driver given up the unequal struggle?

2 BOOT HILL

Round the corner, on Boot Hill a number of helpers attempt to push a Morris Minor. A bus in the distance waits at the junction before attempting its journey into town.

3 INNER HARBOUR

The paddle steamer Embassy is laid up for the winter near the slipway. The pontoons used by pleasure craft on the beach are stored as are a number of smaller boats. Swans have migrated from Radipole Lake in search of food.

4 RADIPOLE LAKE

Swans look for food on a frozen lake.

5 OOPS!

This is believed to have been taken in Chickerell. A fairly new Ford Zodiac with L plates has come to grief with a telegraph pole. An expensive car in which to learn to drive, it does not look too badly damaged.

6 A WALK IN THE SNOW

This looks as if it was taken on Lodmoor. A group of walkers assist on of their number who appears to have been caught in as snowdrift. Fortunately help is at hand!
