Three cabbies will be riding their motorbikes more than 1,100 miles to help a cause close to their hearts.

Paul Best, 59, of Wyke Regis will be joined by his fellow Fleetline taxi drivers Darryl Taylor, 37, of Westham, and Matt Barnes, 40, of Portland for an epic 1,100-mile motorbike across the UK.

They will be riding out at 10pm on May 18 from Portland Bill, down to Land's End in Cornwall and then all the way to John O’Groats at the very top of Scotland all in a single day.

The trio hope to raise money for the mental health charity Mind. It's a cause close to each of their hearts, as all three have experienced mental health problems in the past.

Mr Best said: “I have suffered in the past from depression. It was many years ago and there was nobody there, no support back then. I suffered quite badly.

“My wife has health issues and I’ve had friends commit suicide because the help wasn’t there.

“The biggest lie that a man can tell himself is that ‘I’m fine'. Nobody, especially men, wants to talk about their problems, which is where Mind comes in."

They have named their challenge ‘Mind over Butt’, for the charity they are supporting, Mind, and the area they expect will be sorest.

Mr Taylor said: "Before lockdown, I was bedbound after an accident and it stopped me from doing the things I enjoy like cycling and running. I would sometimes lock myself in the house.

"We all know someone close to us who is suffering, has taken their life or tried to hide their problems.

"For a man, it can be embarrassing to talk about because you are supposed to take on the world.

"Things like this move things forward, and we wanted to add our own personal touch to it."

The trio will be making regular videos of their journey and taking regular breaks along the route.

Mr Best added: “The cause is very close to our hearts. If the money we raise even pays for one person to answer the phone and maybe save a life it will be worth it.”

"Thank you to everyone who has donated so far and thanks in advance to everyone who will donate.”
