AN event which promises to take Weymouth back to pre-historic times will begin this weekend.
Following the success of last year's event, the Dinosaur trail, which is organised by the We Are Weymouth group, will see five life-size dinosaurs spring up at various locations across the town.
A launch event will begin the showpiece on the opening day which will include baby dinosaurs and their handlers, a giant dinosaur egg and visits from a spinosaurus and a raptor.
Moreover, there will also be a free 'Dino PAW' trail and workshops will be held in businesses throughout town to keep youngsters entertained throughout the trail.
Dawn Rondeau, chief operations officer at We Are Weymouth, said: "The 2022 dinosaur trail in Weymouth was such a huge success, drawing visitors and locals out to explore the town and celebrate our Jurassic history, that we really wanted to build on that in 2023.
"We are excited to offer new dinosaur installations in many unusual locations, plus enhance it with a free dinosaur PAW trail.
"To kick the activities off we are excited to be delivering a fabulous free-to-attend launch event in the town centre, and promenade if weather permits.
"With workshops taking place in businesses throughout the town, the PAW trail, with great prizes to be won, and life-size dinosaurs, we’re offering a lot to do whilst really connecting to our Jurassic past.
"We hope to see the whole family out to enjoy some dinosaur fun this February and March."
Dinosaurs can be seen at Bowleaze Cove and The Lookout Cafe, The Palm House at Swannery Walk, The Nothe Tavern, Nautico Lounge as well as the Royal Hotel to discover dinosaur installations.
At each dinosaur, there will be a smartphone-scannable QR code which will educate visitors about the dinosaurs and the Jurassic Coast.
Visitors to the trail are encouraged to share their pictures of the dinosaurs on Facebook on Instagram and tag @WeAreWeymouthUK.
