The Veterans Hub Community Café is offering a free meal and hot drink to anyone on a Tuesday night.

Between 5pm and 7pm on Tuesday nights, the café on Portland Road will offer a warm space with free hot drinks, a free homemade meal and a place to charge their phone to everyone who attends.

As part of "warm space with a meal" evenings, the events will be hosted on Tuesday nights with an identical event hosted on Thursday nights which is exclusively for veterans.

On each night there will be two meal options, one with meat and one vegetarian option.

The evenings began on Tuesday, January 24 and project manager Andy Price is keen to spread the word.

Mr Price said: "Times are tough and people have their money stretched, we are just trying to ease that pressure.

"We can do it so why not, we suggested opening up on a Tuesday night for people to come in for a meal and to socialise.

"Our chef loves cooking and he wants to help people, we are all passionate about helping the community.

"We have run the event the last few weeks, we have had half a dozen people attend.

"It has been really well received and it was nice because the people had not met each other before.

"There are a lot of lonely people and so we provide a safe space with friendly team members.

"Everyone is welcome here from all backgrounds and all age groups."

The warm space with a meal evenings will continue on Tuesday, February 14.

The café will be offering sausage casserole and a vegetarian alternative to members of the public.

The veterans' free meal evenings will continue on Thursday, February 16.
