Shire Hall Museum is hosting an evening in conversation with Syrian-born artist Issam Kourbaj on Monday, February 13 at 7pm.
Issam's 12 tiny boats, from his series Dark Water, Burning World, are currently on display in Shire Hall Museum’s exhibition Crossings: community and refuge.
Made from repurposed bicycle mudgards tightly packed with burnt matches, the boats represent the fragile vessels used by refugees to make their perilous voyages.
In this talk, Issam will discuss his artwork, performances and collaborations in response to the ongoing Syrian conflict and about the destruction on his homeland and cultural heritage since March 2011.
Issam will be in conversation with Jill Cook, curator at the British Museum.
Tickets for this talk, Dark Water, Burning World, are £6 and available to purchase at Shire Hall Museum or online at shirehalldorset.org
