AN 'EYESORE' building near Dorchester South railway station has been demolished after 'blighting the area'.

West Dorset MP Chris Loder has been one of the figures calling for more action to improve the facilities at the railway station.

The Tory representative says he has raised the issue of accessibility improvements at the station many times in the House of Commons.

The Red Star parcel building has been earmarked as one of the areas where regeneration could be possible, with Mr Loder saying it 'attracts anti-social behaviour'.

Train operator South Western Railway (SWR) has also been urged to make improvements to Dorchester South to enhance the experience for disabled and elderly passengers.

The building was demolished over the weekend following a meeting held between Mr Loder and SWR's development manager Andrew Ardley in January.

The Conservative MP said he is also backing a funding bid to install a lift at the station to make it easier to navigate.

“I challenged SWR and Network Rail to finally take down the eyesore that for too long has been blighting the area and attracting antisocial behaviour, and have been making these clear arguments for many months," Mr Loder said.

“I am working hard to ensure the station, and the rail line more widely, attracts the strategic ambition and the resources it needs.

"This weekend marks a sure sign that this message is being heard loud and clear by the railways, and a hopeful indication on future progress."
