A man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after a woman died at a Weymouth pub and B&B in the early hours.
Dorset Police confirmed they were treating the death of the woman as suspicious and a local man had been arrested.
Officers were called to the Tides Inn on King Street at 12.45am on Saturday following reports from the ambulance service of an 'unresponsive woman' at the address.
The woman, who had been staying in one of the pub's letting rooms upstairs, was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner has been notified and the woman’s next of kin have been informed.
A police cordon was in place whilst investigations were carried out.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 12.45 am on Saturday 4 February from the ambulance service in relation to an unresponsive woman at an address in King Street in Weymouth.
"Officers attended and very sadly the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner has been notified and the woman’s next of kin have been informed. Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.
"The death is currently being treated as suspicious and, following enquiries, a local man aged in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
He has been released under investigation as enquiries into the matter continue."
The woman had been staying in one of the upstairs rooms at the Tides Inn.
Janette Antonana, the owner of the Tides Inn, said: "It is just really sad.
"It was a massive shock for us all."
Cllr Tia Roos, Melcombe Regis Councillor, said: "My thoughts are with family and friends who must be very upset to hear the news, my condolences to them.
"It is shocking to hear and it is very sad news."
