THE Sandbanks Ferry is on track to return to service at the end of February.
Operators of the popular route, which runs between Sandbanks to Studland, revealed that the ferry and its new prows are due to arrive in the coming days.
A number of tests will then need to be taken before the ferry can resume service, including system and operational checks, and sea trials.
Despite this, operators say they are “still on target” to recommence service by the end of the month.
Jason du Toit, managing director at Sandbanks Ferry Company, said: “We are pleased to have the ferry back in Poole and are making sure that she will be ready when we recommence service.
"We cannot afford to rush the safety checks and sea trials as these are in everybody’s interests.”
Sandbanks Ferry was taken away in mid-November for a major refit and was due to be out of action for four weeks.
However, while the ferry was being towed to Falmouth, it sustained damage which has pushed back the return date for the craft.
During the tow, the prow arms were severely bent which one boat expert described as “a major problem”.
New prows have been manufactured in Poland and will be fitted on arrival this week.
