Five days of roadworks will be taking place to improve a school route in Weymouth.
Connaught Road in Weymouth - near the Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School and Nursery - will be closed from Monday, February 13 until Friday, February 17 for work widening the footpath and re-aligning the curb as well as resurfacing.
Buxton Road, a major route, will have two-way traffic lights at its junction with Connaught Road, as will Cross Road at the opposite end.
The roadworks aim to make the route safer to walk for those going to school and people using community facilities. In addition, it will make the road more accessible to wheelchair users or those with other mobility issues.
A Dorset Council spokesperson said: “We will be working on Connaught Road to provide a safe walking route to school and community facilities, and for wheelchair-users and people with mobility issues. To minimise disruption, we plan to carry out the work in two phases during school holidays, with the first phase taking place week commencing 13 February.
“Works will involve widening sections of the footway around the trees and kerbing realignment at the Buxton Road junction to further facilitate accessibility to the Connaught Road footways. Connaught Road and Down Road will also be resurfaced as part of the works.
“The trees will not be removed as they are protected under Connaught Roads conservation status.
“Follow-up work will be carried out over the Easter holidays, details to be confirmed.”
