AN inquest has resumed into the death of a motorcyclist after prosecutors produced no evidence in court to support a death by dangerous driving charge.
Callan Malik-Oud, 26, died following a collision on the A353 Preston Road, in Osmington, on May 4, 2021.
Emergency services attended, along with the ambulance service, following the crash at around 5pm and Mr Malik-Oud was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ricky Gareth Allen, 36 and from Hamworthy, had been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and appeared before Bournemouth Crown Court in January where the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) offered no evidence for the charge: a verdict of not guilty was formally entered.
Allen pleaded guilty to an altered charge of dangerous driving and was disqualified from driving for a period of 12 months.
The 36-year-old was made subject to a community order and will be required to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work as well as pay £400 in costs and a surcharge to fund victim services.
Following the conclusion of court proceedings, an inquest into the death of Mr Malik-Oud was formally resumed at a short hearing at Dorset Coroner’s Court on Tuesday, January 31.
In the days after his death, dozens of floral tributes were tied to fences and posts along the A353 by friends and family.
Among the messages read ‘rest easy brother’, ‘it’s a privilege to have called you brother’ and ‘forever in our hearts’.
A tribute written by his family recalled how Mr Malik-Oud loved playing the bongos in Bournemouth, attending music festivals and spending time with family.
It read: “Cal some of us have known you longer than others. Some feel fraudulent by how much we are hurting compared to others close to you.
“That’s a reflection of you. You meant the same to everyone no matter what or how you knew them.
“You passing only took a moment but you are in each and everyone’s broken hearts forever.
“The friends you’ve made for life. Your brothers will miss you. Your sisters will miss you. Your beautiful mother. Everyone.
“You did so much with your beautiful life. We are so proud of you and always will be.”
Dorset Police confirmed Ricky Allen attended a voluntary interview and was subsequently issued with a postal requisition to appear at court. A spokesperson said there had been no arrests in connection with the collision.
The inquest into the death of Callan Malik-Oud has been adjourned to take place on September 5, 2023.
