WEYMOUTH have completed the permanent signing of midfielder Harvey Slade from Bashley.

Slade, who only joined Southern League Division One South side Bash in the summer, has immediately captured the attention of Terras’ boss Bobby Wilkinson.

Slade has six goals in 15 league appearances for Bashley this season.

Previously part of Bashley Under-19s’ title-winning campaign in the National Youth Alliance League four seasons ago, Slade then moved to the US to study at Wright State University, Ohio.

Stints at United Soccer League-2 club Dayton Dutch Lions and Flint City Bucks followed before an unsuccessful trial this summer at Aldershot Town under then boss Mark Molesley.

Slade’s arrival at Weymouth creates extra competition for Xander McBurnie, Tom Bearwish, Scott Rees and Matt Buse.

Speaking to Echosport, Wilkinson said: “He’s a fantastic player and he’s one for the future.

“He’s played in America, he’s a good size, powerful and technically a very good player. Definitely one that the fans will like.

“He’s got good energy in midfield, gets box-to-box and creates little pockets (of space).

“He’s quite an exciting signing for the club, hopefully he’ll come in and do well for us.”

On the prospect of further signings, Wilkinson added: “Not at the moment, we’re not looking to bring anyone in.

“If anything happens over the weekend with a couple of pro clubs, then yes. But there’s nobody at the moment coming in.

“One more might go out the door in the next week, it depends if I get one more in from a pro club before the window shuts.”

Slade is Wilkinson’s second new acquisition in a week, following the loan arrival of Will Dawes from Yeovil.

He could make his debut at Oxford City on Saturday.
