A budding actress from Weymouth is set to make her next television appearance this week as she plays a mean-talking menace in the CBBC series.

Mersey Moore will be playing the part of Seren on Beaker Girls, set to be aired for its second season this Friday, January 13 at 6pm.

The 17-year old, from Littlesea, is in her second year of studying performing arts at Weymouth College and featured in medical drama Casualty in 2016.

Also a keen singer, Mersey also hit the headlines in 2018 for releasing a single dedicated to her stillborn sister Ferrie.

Beaker Girls features Dani Harmer as Tracey Beaker and filming took place in Bristol last year, with the first episode of the 12-part second series, titled My Foster Mum Tracy Beaker, being shown this week.

In this first episode, it doesn’t take long for Beaker chaos to set in, as Mersey's character Seren being mean to Jordan, a child who Tracey is on the verge of fostering.

Mersey, who is set to appear in about half of the episodes, told the Dorset Echo she has mixed emotions ahead of the show's release on Friday.

"I am excited but also a bit nervous as well. We spent quite a large amount of the summer filming it and it has come around so quickly," she said.

"I am not the nicest of characters in it and it was a bit scary at first because I am playing a younger character.

"I didn't want to come across too horrible to the others but by the end it was quite funny and I made loads of friends. But it was definitely a challenge."

Mersey secured the role on Casualty when she was aged just 10 and has appeared on children's channel Nickleodeon.

She also won Singer of the Year in April at the Mark Jermin 30th anniversary awards ceremony in Wales.

When asked what she liked most about performing, Mersey said: "It is so unexpected - you never know what character you are going to be."

The teen has also been a member of the Weymouth-based WOW Youth Musical Theatre group for five years and has ambitions to advance in this going forward, as well as seeing what acting opportunities open up for her.

Mum Melanie added she is 'immenslely proud' of her daughter as she looks forward to watching her on the screen again.

"It is just immense pride really because she has worked so hard for this, she has done performing arts since she was about four," she said. “Seeing her perform is amazing.”

“She is not just a one dimensional actress; she can play lots of different parts. And she is also a lovely person.”

Melanie joked that her daughter’s passion for performing has ‘definitely not come from me’ but hinted that her mother was a dancer, which is where Mersey’s talent could have originated.

You can see Mersey live on stage this April performing with WOW in their upcoming teen edition of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie. Tickets are available from Weymouth Pavilion box office.
