OLIVER Letwin will be attending a meeting on Saturday, June 14 at 10am in the Savill Hall, during which the threatened closure of rural post offices will be discussed.

We urge as many people as possible to attend this meeting, as this issue affects us all and we need to make sure that our opinions are aired.

  • CATTISTOCK Hunt Supporters' Club is organising a car treasure hunt on Friday, June 20.

The start is between 6.30 and 7.30pm from the Kennels, Cattistock.

If all goes to plan, this is also where you should end up! Cost is £10 a car and there will be cash prizes and a barbeque.

  • CHILDREN of Fiji will be holding another mass balloon release on Saturday, July 12, following the success of last year's event.

Last year's winning balloon travelled all the way to Lithuania!

Although the event itself is some way off, we are inviting people to buy' their balloons in advance at £1 each.

Of course, if anyone thinks they can sell' balloons among their friends, do please get in touch.

Every £1 raised will go to help disadvantaged children in the Fiji Islands.

  • THE kitchen area of the Savill Hall in Cattistock is to be refurbished with new units, new cooking facilities and a new slip-proof floor.

The area will also be re-wired.

This means that this part of the hall will be out of action from the last week in July for approximately 3 weeks.

The main hall and toilets will remain open during the re-fit.

  • THE Annual General Meeting of the Parish Council took place on Tuesday, May 27.

Mr Ralph Newman was re-elected chairman for the coming year and Mr Ian Anderson was elected as vice-chairman.

The vacancy for the Parish of Cattistock was filled by the co-option of Mr Peter Eckersall.

  • THE Community Space Committee is in the process of applying for grants for the first stage of the refurbishment of the playing field equipment.
  • A COPY of the Parish Plan has been distributed to every household within the Frome Valley area.

Action required by the Parish Council from the comments and observations within the plan will be looked into at the next council meeting.

A vote of thanks was proposed to the committee for the hard work done in respect of this plan.

  • IN THE light of the proposed post office closures, it was agreed to arrange a public meeting with Oliver Let win to seek his advice and support in maintaining rural post offices.
  • THERE has been a spate of vandalism in Cattistock.

It was agreed that the Parish Council write to the Chief Constable, asking him to investigate and hopefully stop further incidents arising.

The Cricket Club pavilion, Tennis Club pavilion and bus shelter have all been damaged.

  • NOTICE has been received that it is the intention of BT to remove the payphone situated at Frome St Quintin.

Whilst this news is received with some sadness, the fact remains that the needs of consumers have changed drastically with the increase of mobile phones, and payphones are now rarely used.
