Weymouth is famous for its New Year’s Eve celebrations, with people traditionally donning fancy dress to descend upon the town for festivities, before gathering at the iconic Jubilee Clock on the Esplanade to count down the new year and sing Auld Lang Syne.

With lockdown restrictions well behind us, many pubs and clubs will be looking to host their big parties to welcome in the new year.

What events are taking place in Weymouth?

The Quayside Music Festival New Year’s Eve event in Weymouth will be back this year. Taking place outside the Rendezvous harbourside pub on Custom House Quay - which will be partially closed - the event will include a variety of bands performing onstage.

Motorists are warned there will be restrictions on Custom House Quay to allow the New Year's Eve music festival to go ahead on the harbourside outside the Rendezvous.

From 7am today to 7am tomorrow the following restrictions will be imposed according to Dorset Council;
-Temporary road closure on Custom House Quay between underneath the Town Bridge and junction with St Mary Street.
-Parking bays suspended on Custom House Quay for same area described above.
-Revoke the Prohibition of Driving Order in Lower St Alban Street at its junction with St Nicholas Street.
The alternative route for diverted traffic will be via Lower St Alban Street and St Thomas Street.

The Closet nightclub on Maiden Street will be kicking off the new year on Saturday, December 31, with two DJs starting at 8pm.

The Black Dog on St Mary Street will have live music from 9pm. Free entry. 

Caffeine, a cocktail bar on the Esplanade, will also be hosting a different style of new year's event from 7pm. Its party will include a masquerade ball, casino, silent disco and drag.

The King Arms, Trinity Street in Weymouth, is hosting a party with DJ Roger Mac from 8.30pm. Free Entry.

The John Gregory Pub on Radipole Lane will be partying from 8.30pm in their own disco style.

The Weymouth & Portland RFC will be host to the Glitz 'n' Glam New Year's Eve party from 7pm with music from DJ Gareth.

Famous Old Spa on Dorchester Road is holding a family disco. Event kicks off at 8pm.

The Royal Oak on Dorchester Road will be hosting a 'Back to the 90s' fancy dress party. It starts from 7pm and live music from Hamish Jeffcott from 9pm to 11pm.

Hardys Hophouse on St Thomas Street will be hosting their new year's party from 7pm with music by The Dolmen.

At the Golden Lion Hotel on St Edmund's Street, the ShakeSpearos - a new wave covers band - will be playing into 2023.

At the Belvedere pub on High West Street, the Glass Spiders will be playing all the 70s glam from 8.30pm. Admission is free.

In Portesham, The Kings Arms will be hosting its party from 6pm and live music by Phil Hilborne Band from 10 pm.

The Waterloo Pub on Grange Road will be welcoming the new year in pop-punk style with live music from 8pm through the night starting with a solo from Donna Slade, a disco and finally Circus of Thieves. Entry is free.

The Spice Ship in Preston will be holding a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed family fancy dress party from 7pm.

The Slug and Lettuce on St Thomas Street will be holding a 'fabulous' NYE Glitter party from 7pm. Free with booking.

 

In Dorchester, many will be gathering at the Town Pump to bring in the new year.

Luciano's in Brewery Square will have live music from Emma Marshall from 6pm.

At the Brew House Kitchen near Brewery Square, the party starts at 6pm.

The King's Arms on High East Street will have food and a DJ from 8pm.

And at The Poet Laureate in Poundbury, there will be a New Year's Eve disco from 7pm.

 

On Portland, The Admiralty Hotel will be holding a buffet banquet with entertainment from the Skimmity Hitchers from 9pm.
