- CHICKERELL United Football Club's annual general meeting is to be held on Monday, June 9th in the Chickerell Town Council Suite at Willowbed Hall.
It is due to start at 7.30pm and all existing members are encouraged to attend and they would welcome anybody new that could help them to continue with the existing framework that is in place for the future of the club.
- LAST Wednesday, May 28th, a group of the regulars from the Charlestown Victory Hall coffee mornings were treated to a mystery coach trip courtesy of Alf's fish and Chip Shop and Bluebird Coaches.
The weather was unfortunately absolutely awful but that did not stop them enjoying a lovely trip all around some of the historic Dorset villages.
They went to some very picturesque places including Puddletown and Brianstown, they saw Laurence of Arabia's house and the spot where he was killed near Bovington and they also went down the Rhododendron Mile which is just coming in to full bloom and was beautiful.
Their driver was the ex Mayor of Chickerell, John Dean, and he was very entertaining and informative about the places they visited.
On returning to the hall they were treated to a delicious fish and chip lunch, again courtesy of Alf's fish and Chip Shop.
All the recycled teenagers (their description not mine!) had a really enjoyable day and would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Bluebird Coaches, John Dean and especially to John and Karen from Alf's fish and chip shop for organising it all for us.
They are hoping to do something for the coffee morning regulars again nearer to Christmas.
Just a reminder that all are welcome to our Annual General Meeting on Thursday, June 19th at the Victory Hall starting at 6pm prompt.
- CHICKERELL Carnival is now not too far away - the big day is Saturday, August 16th.
A great afternoon of family fun is on offer from noon to 7pm. There will not be a procession this year but there will be the usual packed afternoon of events.
The committee is still taking bookings for stalls and stands for around the arena but time is getting short - so anyone interested is urged to call the chairman Mandy on (01305) 770037 for last minute availability.
- CHICKERELL'S Willowbed Hall is the venue for a flower and produce show this August.
The date is Saturday, August 9th and there are a variety of classes to enter: cut flower classes, vegetable and fruit classes, cookery, floral arrangements, handicrafts and photography. The junior section has classes in miniature gardens, an animal made from vegetables, a scary monster 'that you have made' a drawing or painting and three gingerbread men.
Schedules and entry forms are available from Chickerell Post Office and Chickerell Pharmacy and must be returned to the show organiser, Colin Giles, by Wednesday, August 6th.
