Members of Castle Cove Sailing Club in Weymouth will enjoy a weekend of events to celebrate its centenary in 2023 - with a little help from Damory.
The Dorset bus operator has donated cash from its community fund, to help ensure the sailing club’s members can be included in the celebrations with little or no cost to them.
“We are a small club, offering sailing opportunities to all ages - either racing, cruising, training or leisure in both dinghies and keelboats,” said commodore Andy Adler.
“Next year’s weekend of events, including a reception and a Parade of Sail, promises to be a wonderful reflection of everything this special club, and spectacular coastline, have to offer. It is thanks to the generosity of local companies like Damory, that we’re able to celebrate in this way, and I’d like to thank them for their support.”
Castle Cove Sailing Club is run by volunteers and is based in Portland Harbour. It is the latest recipient of Damory’s community fund, which is open for applications twice a year.
“Sailing gives local people the chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery we are blessed with here on the south coast, whilst taking part in healthy exercise and socialising with others,” said Damory operations manager, Paul Knight.
“As an established part of the Dorset community, we are always looking for ways to support local clubs, schools and societies - and this is the perfect opportunity to do just that.
“We wish Castle Cove Sailing Club a hugely successful centenary year, and are looking forward to the celebrations next June.”
