CHILDREN at a Weymouth primary school are living up to their school motto, government inspectors have concluded.
Ofsted inspectors noted that pupils enjoy learning at St Andrew's Church of England School in Preston and, like their motto, live and live splendidly'.
In the report produced from the April inspection, inspectors wrote: "Pupils love life at St Andrew's and have very few concerns."
Some 17 areas of St Andrew's Church of England were judged as good and nine areas were thought to be outstanding.
Just one aspect - the attendance of learners - was thought to be satisfactory, the school's lowest grading.
Receiving top marks was the school's teaching of the curriculum.
St Andrew's was praised for encouraging visitors and developing excellent' links with other schools and colleges and a partner school in Kenya.
"There are numerous examples of innovative projects - for example, a four year creative arts programme will culminate with performances and displays at the 2012 Olympic sailing events," the report says.
Another outstanding aspect of the Littlemoor Road school is the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development it offers to pupils.
Inspectors said: "The school council represents pupils' views most effectively and has brought about numerous improvements, such as the reintroduction of cooked lunches."
The one area inspectors identified for development - already on the school's improvement plan - was that next steps are given to children clearly and consistently in their marked work.
The school, which has 375 pupils aged between four and 11, also had a Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools visit, which praised St Andrew's for its outstanding distinctiveness and effectiveness as a Church of England school.
Headteacher Vanessa Lucas was singled out for providing very good leadership.
She said: "Our children try so hard to achieve and they have much to celebrate, thanks to all their efforts and the support and guidance of the parents, the school's staff and governors."
Tim West, chairman of governors, said: "Vanessa Lucas leads a team full of creative talent and commitment - the school is buzzing with ideas.
"It was particularly pleasing to see an increase in the number of areas recognised as outstanding."
