VILLAGERS in Maiden Newton revelled at a jive party in their Village Hall last Monday, June 2.

The party was celebrating the end of a course of jive lessons, held in the village over the past twelve months in preparation for the Maiden Newton at War 1940's event on Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22.

Committee member Andy Elliott said "We had a dance party at the final jive lesson in order to practice our dancing skills for the Big Band Dance on the Saturday night.

We were only able to do this thanks to the Echo finding us dance instructors in the appeal last year.

The committee would like to thank the Echo for helping us as they did. We are all now looking forward to the dance itself, so we can show off our moves".

  • BY THE way, on the Saturday there will be members of the Royal British Legion manning a publicity caravan as part of the Maiden Newton at War event, so why not pop in for a chat.
  • GET ready to follow the Scarecrow Trail around Evershot on Saturday, June 21 between 2 and 5pm.

  • WHAT a busy day June 21 is turning out to be!

In Chilfrome the quarterly special cleaning session takes place on that day.

Volunteers are asked to assemble at the church at 9.30am.

  • ALSO in Chilfrome, but on Sunday, June 15 the garden at Grove Stall Farm will be open from 2 until 6pm in aid of the National Gardens Scheme.

This is a delightful and beautifully maintained small garden that is well worth a visit.

  • GARDENERS in Cattistock have their sights set on the end of the month and are working hard to make sure that everything will be looking its best for the Gardens Walkabout event on Sunday, June 29 between 2 and 6pm.

Apart from a number of lovely gardens open to the public, there will be plant and craft stalls, WI cream teas and homemade cakes.

Cost for adults is £2.50 and children can come along for free.

There will be plenty of free parking available in the village.

The money raised at this event will go to Dorchester Hospital Special Care Baby Unit and the charity Facing the World.

  • OVER that same weekend Cattistock Church will be holding its Flower Festival from Saturday, June 28 until Monday, June 30 from 10am until 6pm.

A patronal Songs of Praise will be held at 6.60 on Sunday, June 29.

Donations will be in aid of Cattistock Church.
