PUPILS from Weymouth and Portland have been bringing Christmas cheer to residents in the area with videoed Christmas readings.
Seven schools from the area - Chickerell Primary, Confiers Primary, Holy Trinity Church of England Primary, Radipole Primary, Southill Primary, St George's Primary and Westfield Arts College - have taken part in the scheme as part of the Chesil Reading Project.
The videos show the pupils reciting festive tales as part of the project which is being shared to bring some festive cheer to the local community– and to support children to have a love of reading.
Councillor Andrew Parry, Dorset Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children, Education, Skills and Early Help, said: “Children who develop a love of reading are more likely to do well in school, have lower stress levels and go on to enjoy more rewarding careers.
"Having an audience to listen to them read makes this even more exciting for the children. Of course, we also hope it brings some festive cheer to the people listening to the stories.”
The Chesil Reading Project involves schools in Weymouth and Portland that are united in trying to give all children a love of reading.
