IT was standing room only at Age Concern Dorchester when more than 30 older people attended a big screen presentation entitled "What's on the internet for me?"
The Silver Surfers Day saw volunteer Vincent Haslem present an array of interesting and unusual websites - mostly those that older people would not think would be of interest to them.
Margaret Wellspring, IT activities manager, said: "We took a trip about the globe with Google Earth, entered the world of the British monarchy, 10 Downing Street and the White House and caught up on last night's news at the BBC. We found out the last rare bird sightings in Dorset and even ordered pictures from the Dorset Echo.
"Silver Surfers Day is all about encouraging older people to embrace technology and this presentation has inspired many to find out more."
Bettie Lewis, 76, was among the silver surfers soaking up IT info and determined to have a go on her own computer at home in Milborne St Andrew.
She said: "I really thought I can't learn anything new but how wrong I was - some of the websites were amazing.
"I'll be spending even more time at my computer, especially searching for my favourite singers on YouTube, thanks to Age Concern."
The day also featured plenty of sound advice about how to make the most of the internet including encouraging people to sign up for a one-to-one course at Age Concern Dorchester.
