A BRUNCH held to start a month of wartime celebrations at Maiden Newton took the village back in time.
The Maiden Newton At War committee have organised a series of events that plan to recreate the village during the Second World War.
More than 25 village residents, a group of jive dancers and guests dressed in 1940s costumes had brunch in the village hall accompanied by wartime music and announcements.
Co-ordinator of the committee Joan Dean said: "The brunches have all gone very well indeed - this is our 10th month of putting the Sunday event on and we have built up a regular clientele."
The £160 made from the brunch will be donated to Greenford School and other organisations involved with the committee.
The village is preparing to go will go back in time from June 20-22 where the whole village will turn into a Second World War scene.
A number of groups have already agreed to take up posts around the village entertain the crowds, and organisers are hoping to put on lots of activities.
On the Saturday there will be the Torquay Glenn Miller swing dance at Maiden Newton school for adults and Sunday features a host of events, including a radio play, a display of military vehicles and 1940s firefighting equipment, a display of wartime memories and memorabilia. The event will kick off with an air raid siren being sounded across the village.
