Portland Coastguard said the elderly man was quickly found yesterday afternoon. He was not seriously injured but was taken to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester.
Elsewhere, a 32-foot yacht was struggled to stem the tide after suffering engine failure off Portland Bill. The Heritage was towed into Weymouth by the yacht Challenger 3, where its crew was met by coastguards.
And the Jacinta called Portland Coastguard after suffering engine problems that left the yacht covered in slippery oil.
The vessel, taking part in the Jester Challenge to the Azores, could not make it to Brest, France, unaided and rescuers passed its details to coastguards in Falmouth, Cornwall.
