WEYMOUTH Town Council has given the green light to a lapdance club's request to renew its sexual entertainments licence.
At a meeting of its Planning and Licensing Advisory Committee on Tuesday the town council - which is an advisory body to Dorset Council, the licensing authority with overall decision-making powers - briefly reviewed the request from Wiggle gentleman's club, 33 New Street.
Members unanimously voted to return a comment of 'no objection' having previously heard how the town centre premises has been licensed since 2011 and has “operated in a responsible manner,” since then.
Dorset Council has confirmed that there have been no complaints or issues relating to the venue in the last year and that the premises have not been open since the last renewal.
It comes after last year's renewal application attracted an objection from the new owners of a seafront property who had moved to the area.
The single objection automatically triggered a council licensing panel hearing.
Councillors on the licensing panel heard that the club, where nude dancing is allowed, had never caused problems and had always been operated well, within the guidelines. The hearing ruled in favour of the business.
The current application will be discussed by Weymouth Town Council's Planning and Licensing Committee on Tuesday November 29 before a final decision is made by Dorset Council, the licensing authority.
