Cerne Abbas

  • THE concert performed by the Mill Singers on Saturday, May 24 was a resounding success.

Under their conductor Peter Lattimer and with the support of an excellent flute ensemble all went well and the audience enjoyed not only the concert but also the tasty interval refreshments, provided by villager Helen Smith and Ros Forrester.

The concert raised £ 250 for group funds for which everyone is thanked.

  • THE Voyage, by local writer Lee Stroud, will be performed at the village hall on Thursday, June 5.

This is a period drama about the adventures of wealthy heiress Megan, sentenced to transportation for life on HMS London for her husband's murder.

Off the Wall Theatre Ensemble presents this production, tickets are £ 5 and available at the door.

  • NEWCOMERS to the village who haven't received invitations to this years drinks party are kindly asked to phone Karen Handley on 01300 341158 to put things right!

The party, which is held for all new residents since May 2007, will take place on Friday, June 20.

  • KAREN is also the one to phone if you would like more information on the dog show of this year's village fete!

The entry fee is £ 1 per class, payable on the day and judging will begin at 1:30pm.

The classes are: Most beautiful bitch, most handsome dog, dog with the waggiest tail, best junior handler under 12, best six legs, best Olympic themed fancy dress, best veteran and an obstacle race.

The date of the church fete is Saturday, July 12.

  • YOUTH CLUB: Leaders Amber and Jackie are completing a VRQ Youth Work Qualification Level 2 after which Jackie will go on to do the Diploma in Youth Work.

She has recently attended courses in child protection, counselling skills, conflict resolution and first aid training.

A website is in the process of being set up, with details to follow.

Watch out for fundraising events to begin soon, including a sponsored walk and car wash plus the ongoing quiz in Cerne Abbas Stores.

The club is furthermore planning to print a Cerne Valley Youth cookery book.

If you have any recipes, particularly ones that are easy to make for children and teenagers, please drop them into the village shop, for Jackie Baxter's attention.

It is hoped that it will be ready for sale before Christmas.

Godmanstone and Nether Cerne

  • A RIGHTS of way officer for the above villages is needed.

The Parish Council is looking for someone keen to promote and improve the Rights of Way network along the valley.

A good knowledge of footpaths and bridleways or a willingness to learn is important.

In addition, liaising with landowners, Countryside Access Team and Dorset County Council is required.

Another aspect of the role is to communicate with the local community, encouraging use of footpaths and bridleways and involvement in local projects.
