Removing Dorset Art Weeks signs from the A35, is almost as silly as food inspectors banning pig decorated tartlets from a local bakery because the public might be confused that they could be pork-based savoury products.
Yet another example of local government bureaucracy doing its best to kill off what makes it interesting living in one of Britain's most lively counties.
Dorset Art Weeks not only makes a major contribution to the local Dorset economy, it gives a great deal of pleasure to every visitor who can stand in local artists' homes and marvel at the unique talents of people who are able to transform colour, shape and shadow into magically representations of reality.
It really doesn't need the attentions of hyped-up killjoys who seem to enjoy indulging the worst kind of control freakery - the variety that thinks its given licence by being placed in jobs that theoretically protect the public interest.
Perhaps, the Highways Agency should take on board that any driver who is distracted by such instantly recognisable signs shouldn't be on the road!
