D-DAY will be remembered in what the Rev David Botterill describes as a gentle way' at St John's Church Hall in Ventnor Lane, off Fortuneswell, on Thursday, starting at 7pm.

At the 40s Night, which will tie in with the church's D-Day Remembrance Project, there will no doubt be some nostalgia among the generation who remember the momentous event but there will also be the spirit of those days in the music of that decade, including a generous helping of Glenn Miller.

Sausage and mash and jam roly poly will be served and tickets, which cost £5, can be booked now by phoning 01305 820103. Drama will be presented in the hall on Wednesday, June 11 when the Off The Wall Theatre Ensemble will be performing The Voyage, a play by Lee Stroud that tells the story of a wealthy 18th century heiress, Megan West, who has been convicted of the murder of her husband and is sentenced to transportation to Australia for life.

Well known in all aspects of theatre, Lee Stroud's career has taken her between England and America since 1990 and in both countries she has directed and performed in drama and musical theatre.

She now lives in Dorchester and continues to write, direct and act with the Off The Wall Theatre Ensemble and Dorchester Drama. The performance at St John's Hall starts at 7.30pm and tickets costing £5 are available from Rev David Botterill or on the door on the night.

Then on Friday, June 13, the hall will be the venue for a Jazz Night with Macie Jay Quintet and Mike Botterill in aid of the Cycle Paramedics. Ring 01305 820103 to book tickets which cost £5 and include a ploughman's supper. To accompany this, guests are free to take their own wine.
