A treat is in store for Ukrainian refugee families living in Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester.
A fun evening is being organised for refugees and their host families this weekend.
It comes courtesy of the people from Weymouth churches who organised a fun day out for the Ukrainians at Cumulus Outdoors Activity Centre in Swanage in September.
The evening will include live music and dancing to the ‘Omega Project’, lots of great food and drink, games, activities, puzzles, treasure hunts and much more.
In particular, it will be an opportunity for the Ukrainians to celebrate six months now in the UK, and for them to enjoyably interact – both with each other and their hosts.
Organiser Andy Dukes said: “We very much hope that, even if only for a while, we can help take the Ukrainians’ thoughts away from the abomination and tragedy that is happening in their homeland and show the wider support that is held for them in our community.”
The event will take place at St Aldhelm's Church Centre (behind the church), Spa Road, Weymouth, on Saturday, November 12 starting at 6pm and finishing at 9.30pm.
The entire evening is free to all.
Organisers would particularly like to thank:
* The team of volunteers from Radipole churches giving their time and energy preparing and serving food, running activities, and logistics
* The Omega Project band playing for no fee
* Rev Nick Clarke and Andy Dukes who did a sponsored cycle to Swanage and back
* Cumulus Outdoors Adventure Centre, many of whose staff refunded their pay for the activity day in September
* The Royal Oak pub on Dorchester Road, Weymouth for donating drinks
* Morrisons supermarket, Weymouth for their generous donation of food
Mr Dukes said: "This all follows on from the inspiration of Radipole and Melcombe Regis Team Rector Nick Clarke, feeling passion in his heart to do something to help the large number of Ukrainian refugee families currently living locally, escaping the horrors of the Russian invasion of their country."
