Remembrance Day services are set to take place today to honour the fallen.
In Weymouth the Remembrance Sunday service will begin at 10.58am on the seafront opposite the cenotaph.
The event, which will be hosted by the Mayor of Weymouth Cllr Ann Weaving, will be conducted by Mayor’s Chaplin, Honorary Alderman the Rev Brian Ellis.
To mark the start and end of a two-minute silence, a cannon will be fired by a member of the Nothe Fort Volunteer Artillery.
The Last Post and Reveille will be played by a bugler from the Weymouth Salvation Army.
The mayor will then lay a wreath on behalf of the town’s residents at the cenotaph.
Amongst those in attendance will include military representatives, local associations and MP for South Dorset Richard Drax.
Following this, a parade including standard bearers, veterans, cadets and youth organisations will make its way along the seafront to the American memorial where another wreath will be laid.
Councillor Ann Weaving said: “As Mayor of Weymouth it is a real privilege to host the town’s Remembrance Sunday events. It provides a moment of reflection where people can come together to remember the incredibly brave people who have fought in conflicts all over the world.
"These individual sacrifices must never be forgotten. This is especially poignant given Weymouth’s history in working closely with its Armed Forces community.”
The Esplanade between William Street and King Street will be closed to traffic between 10am and 12pm on Remembrance Sunday. Closure of the Esplanade between King Street and King's Statue will also be in place between 12pm and 12.30pm. Diversions will be in operation until the services and parade have ended.
Melcombe Regis, Park Street, and Swannery car parks will be offering free parking for people attending.
Meanwhile, Dorset Council will be hosting a service at 10.40am on Friday, Armistice Day.
The service, which will take place outside County Hall in Dorchester, will commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women involved in the two world wars and later conflicts.
The council will provide a live stream of the service from their Facebook page.
The service will be led by the Rev John Yarrien, and the introduction will be read by Councillor Val Pothecary, Chairman of Dorset Council, before the wreaths will be laid.
Councillor Val Pothecary said: “This is one of the most poignant dates in our calendar when we remember the sacrifices our brave men and women made in the two world wars and in later conflicts.
"We also remember and give thanks to those who continue to give their lives to keep us safe.
“Everyone is welcome to take part and pay their respects …Lest we forget.”
In Dorchester, the Remembrance Sunday service will go ahead at 10.55am at the war memorial at the bottom of South Street.
More information regarding the Sunday service is set to be released closer to the time.
On the same day, there is also a short service at the German war memorial at the Fordington Cemetery at 12.45pm.
It is expected a service will also be held on Portland but the Echo does not have any further details currently.
In Portland, two remembrance services are scheduled to take place on Sunday.
The first will take place at 10:55 am with the annual service of remembrance at the Cenotaph near the Portland Heights Hotel.
This will be preceded by a walk/march from the Drill Hall on Easton Lane, this will begin at 10:20.
Following this event, there will be a memorial service at the American Memorial.
This service will go ahead at 12:30 pm at the memorial at the Victoria Gardens.
