TWO people had to be led to safety from a smoke-logged flat in Weymouth early today.

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service crews were called to the property, in Kirtleton Avenue, shortly after 1am.

The flat was filled with smoke, caused by an electric oven containing two burgers that had been destroyed by fire.

Firefighters from Weymouth led one man and one woman to safety from the property.

A Dorset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Luckily no-one was hurt and there was no damage to the property.

"We would like to remind everyone that they need to be careful when cooking in the early hours, if not all the time.

"Unattended cooking can cause fires, as has been shown today."
