IT IS not many village fetes that can boast the chance of stardom to its visitors but that is just what Thorncombe's is doing.

The annual village fete is to be held on Saturday, June 14, on the playing field of St Mary's School in Chard Street between noon and 4pm and the raffle's top prize is the chance to star alongside Stephen Fry and Hermione Norris in the TV series Kingdom.

The prize has been donated by villager Simon Wheeler, creator and director of Kingdom and husband of Hermione.

Although they have a home in London the couple describe their Thorncombe home as a wonderful escape'.

Villager Richard Delderfield said: "Simon and his son Wilf are strong members of our church community and the fete is supporting the church so he donated the prize to help."

As well as the usual stalls, a bumper adventure/assault course and pony rides will no doubt be most popular with children, whereas a coconut shy, plate smashing and welly throwing will give adults the opportunity to let off steam.

Thorncombe's famous breakfast club will be serving bacon butties and the like from noon.

Entertainment is being provided by Kelly's School of Dance and hopefully music by Chard Junior Brass.

The day will round off with a traditional cream tea.
