Police are appealing for witnesses after two serious crashes in the space of a week.

A woman in her 70s died three days after a car she was in crashed and overturned whilst a six year old remains in hospital following a two-car collision on the A37.

The single-vehicle collision occurred at around 3.15pm on Tuesday, 25 October on Chickerell Road.

An orange Peugeot ended up on its roof with the driver, a woman in her 70s, taken to hospital by the ambulance service.

Chickerell Road was shut between between East Street and Glennie Way for several hours. A large emergency service presence was at the scene of the incident.

The driver sadly died on Friday, October 28. Her family has been informed and the coroner has been notified.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses or people with dashcam footage to come forward and assist the investigation.

Police Constable Tracy Downer, of the traffic unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the woman who died at this extremely difficult time for them.

“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of this collision and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage, to please contact us.”

Meanwhile a six year old girl remains in hospital after being airlifted to hospital following a serious two-car crash on the A37 near Dorchester.

The collision took place at around 8pm on Saturday, October 29 and involved two cars - a black Ford Focus and a silver Mercedes - on the A37 at Holywell Cross.

The driver of the Ford sustained serious injuries whilst two passengers suffered minor injuries - all three were taken to hospital via land ambulance for treatment.

A six year old girl, also a passenger in the Ford, had to be airlifted to hospital where was said to be in a serious condition.

Crews from Maiden Newton Fire Station and Yeovil Fire Station were at the scene alongside the police and ambulance service.
