Affpuddle
- THE villagers of Briantspuddle gathered in the village hall for a talk entitled Getting Going with Digital Photography, by Paul Overton, a lecturer from Kingston Maurward college.
This entertaining evening certainly got everyone looking at their cameras with new eyes, and provided an introduction to all sorts of new skills.
A number of weekly courses take place at the college to give people the opportunity to build on their knowledge.
Peter Talbot thanked Paul for a fascinating insight into the subject of digital photography.
- THIS is just a last-minute reminder about the lovely flower festival that will be taking place in St Laurence's church at Affpuddle on Friday June 6, Saturday June 7 and Sunday June 8.
Its title is Church and Village Through the Ages, and will be well worth a visit to enjoy the floral designs and displays of treasured possessions that pertain to life in the village throughout the years..
Refreshments will be available each day.
On Saturday June 7, there will be a jazz concert in the Peace Garden at 7.30pm.
Tickets for the jazz concert, and all information about the festival weekend are available from Audrey Grindrod on 01929 471214, and Elizabeth Whatley on 01305 848959.
The festival will conclude with a Songs of Praise on Sunday June 8 at 6pm.
- AT THE June meeting of the parish council, it is intended to review requests for donations to local charities and non-profit-making organisations as authorised under section 137 of the local government act 1972.

- THE Countrywomen's club enjoyed a hilarious afternoon with Sheila Hansford's talk entitled Washing Away the War, a practical talk she usually gives to groups of children who visit the Nothe Fort to experience life as an evacuee during the war.
Joan Hawkins supplied the lovely flowers for the top table and raffle.
Mrs and Miss Bridle served teas.
The competition for an old knitting pattern was won by Wendy Cox. Second was Thelma Coombes and third Margaret Barrett.
The next meeting of the countrywomen's club will be on Wednesday, June 11 at 2.20pm. The speaker will be Mr R Christian whose subject will be Walk in North Africa. The competition is for a garden rose.
Visitors and new members are always welcome. Do come along.
- THERE is to be a summer fair at St Mary's Middle School on Friday June 27 from 6pm until 8pm.
This will be outdoors on the playing field if weather permits, or indoors if it rains.
Entry is free for all the family.
St Mary's School samba band and dance group will be providing entertainment.
There will be games, craft stalls, cakes, tombola and a raffle.
Enjoy a drink and a bite to eat from the barbecue and licensed bar.
