MEMBERS of Weymouth's former Labour Club are calling a clear-the-air meeting to discuss their future tonight.
They were left without a home three months ago when their premises in Southview Road were closed by management because of poor trading Members now plan to discuss the closure at a meeting to be held at 7.30pm in the Waverley Arms Hotel in Abbotsbury Road.
Danny Ferguson, who is one of the club's 500 members explained: "We will be talking about everything to do with the closure of our club and this will include discussing what assets - if any - are left to us."
He added that other business on the night will include a notice of motion to elect a new committee and officers group so that debate on other items can legally be held.
Mr Ferguson said: "We fought a campaign to save our club but we didn't succeed. Now we have a whole host of things that we want to discuss. If it emerges that we don't have many assets then there may be enough for a celebration for members to say goodbye to the club in style or to replace some of the 2008 membership fees they have lost.
"We must also consider what debts the club allegedly owes and do what we can to pay major debts off such as the refurbishment of the toilets where we may owe £5,000.
"All this has to be looked at and we won't know where we stand until we have held the meeting because there is bound to be a lot of discussion.
"Our last meeting elected several representatives of the club of which I am one.
"It is now our duty to present this meeting at the Waverley Arms Hotel on Friday night.
"Once we have introduced proceedings it will be up to those members who attend to decide what course it takes."
The club's premises are currently up for sale with a guide price of £350,000.
The red brick building is owned by South Dorset Labour Party and the club, which operated for more than 30 years, was its tenant.
