Weymouth and Portland Borough Council's events and parks team has joined up with war veterans to host their first D-Day picnic on Friday, June 6.
Anybody can attend the event in the Nothe Gardens from 5.30pm to 8.30pm and attendees are welcome to arrive in 1940s costumes or casual wear.
Free activities will include a display of historic military vehicles, 1940s memorabilia, music of the era and a ration book trail. Weymouth Civic Society has supported the picnic, offering free access to the Nothe Fort's 1940s shop, school room and air raid shelter.
Weymouth and Portland Borough Council's leisure and tourism spokesman Steve Davies hopes the picnic will involve more people in Veterans' Awareness Week.
He said: "It's all about getting families and youngsters involved."
Veterans' Awareness Week will take place from Saturday, June 14 to Friday, June 20.
