WEYMOUTH'S Premier Inn has been granted planning permission for a three-storey extension to provide 43 extra bedrooms.
The hotel, which is run by the Whitbread Group, said the new build would create 16 new bedrooms on the ground and first floors and another 11 bedrooms on the second floor.
Members of Weymouth and Portland planning and traffic committee were told that the hotel inside Lodmoor coach and car park was a success story and wanted to increase its business to 106 bedrooms including ones for use by disabled guests.
The committee was also told that the development would create 16 new part-time jobs.
Coun Margaret Leicester said: "I think this has got to be a welcome addition to the town and it shows that things are moving on."
A report to the meeting said that the extension will result in the loss of some car parking, but the 16 spaces to go are not unacceptable while there will be extra parking provided behind the leisure ranch.
Members then voted unanimously to grant permission for the scheme.
