POLICE have recovered a large number of printer cartridges believed to be stolen after stopping a car.
Officers from Weymouth and Portland response team, the neighbourhood police team and the police intelligence department were tasked to make a vehicle stop earlier today after a car which had been linked with bulk thefts of printer cartridges triggered an automatic number plate recognition sensor near a retail outlet in Dorchester.
The vehicle was followed and stopped in Weymouth where after two occupants were detained and a large number of printer cartridges equating to the value of several hundred pounds were seized.
Two men have been arrested.
A full statement from Weymouth and Portland police said: "Officers from Weymouth & Portland Response, neighbourhood police team and our Intelligence Department made a fantastic proactive stop this afternoon.
"They reacted to a vehicle that activated ANPR with a marker indicating it was linked to bulk thefts of printer cartridges. It was located near retail premises in Dorchester, followed and stopped in Weymouth.
"Two occupants were detained, they and the vehicle were searched and a large quantity of printer cartridges to the value of several hundreds of pounds recovered. Two males have been arrested and are currently assisting with enquiries."
